Not just fantasy anymore

FanDuel built its name in daily fantasy sports. That was the product that made it a household name in the United States before sports betting legalization opened a much larger door. By the time Ontario’s regulated market launched in April 2022, FanDuel was already one of the most downloaded sports betting apps in the U.S. It came to Ontario with that momentum and a registration covering casino, sports betting, and poker.

How it performed from day one

FanDuel was among the fastest operators to reach significant market share in Ontario. iGaming Ontario’s quarterly data placed it consistently in the top three by handle in sports betting. The reasons aren’t complicated: the app is well-designed, the odds are competitive, and the brand already had recognition among Canadian sports fans who’d used the American product via VPN or while travelling.

Flutter’s fingerprints

FanDuel is owned by Flutter Entertainment, the Irish company that also owns PokerStars, Betfair, and Sky Betting & Gaming. Flutter’s scale gives FanDuel access to technology, content, and data that smaller operators can’t match. That shows up in things like pricing models for live in-play betting and the speed at which the product updates.

Flutter’s presence in Ontario doesn’t stop at FanDuel. The company has multiple brands registered through TSG Interactive Canada. But FanDuel is clearly the flagship — the one getting the most marketing budget and the fastest feature rollouts.
